Saint Athanasius
Defender of the Faith

This beautifully crafted stained glass window commemorates Saint Athanasius, one of the most revered theologians and defenders of early Christianity. Known as the "Father of Orthodoxy," Saint Athanasius was instrumental in defending the doctrine of Christ’s divinity during the Arian controversy in the 4th century.
Dressed in bishop’s robes, with a mitre symbolising his role as a leader of the Church, Saint Athanasius holds a book of scriptures, signifying his theological wisdom and contributions to the Christian faith. The cross-shaped staff in his hand represents his unwavering commitment to Christ, even in the face of great persecution and exile.
The inscription below the window dedicates it to the memory of Rona Guise-Brown, reflecting the enduring bond between the Church and the faithful who have supported its mission throughout history.
A Prayer to Saint Athanasius
O Glorious Saint Athanasius,
Champion of Christ’s truth and defender of the faith,
Intercede for us, that we may hold fast to the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Grant us the courage to stand firm in truth, even in the face of adversity.
Guide us to grow in faith, wisdom, and love for the Church.
Saint Athanasius, pray for us and inspire us to live as witnesses to the Gospel.
Amen.
